Mysterious ice chunks fall from sky in Vehari | The Express Tribune

Listen to article

VEHARI:

A massive ice chunk fell from the sky in the village of 30WB near Wazirabad, causing cracks in the ground and scattering ice pieces several metres away.

The unusual incident occurred around noon on Thursday.

The eyewitnesses said the sky was completely clear, with no signs of stormy weather, when the ice chunk suddenly plummeted onto the farmland of local farmer Tajammul Hussain.

Hussain, who was watering his fields at the time, described seeing a heavy object falling rapidly from above, prompting him to flee in fear. Moments later, a loud impact was heard, resonating several kilometres away, drawing hundreds of villagers to the site.

Former Market Committee Chairman Abdul Hannan Budh reported that the ice chunk consisted of large pieces of frozen material, which began melting upon contact with the ground.

The event has sparked widespread speculation among locals, with many wondering about its origins.

Experts suggest that such occurrences, though rare, could be attributed to meteorological or scientific phenomena.

Some believe the object might be a “megacryometeor” – a large ice mass that forms in the atmosphere and falls unpredictably due to unknown factors.

However, further analysis is needed to confirm the exact cause.
