KARACHI: Naseer Soomro, one of the tallest men in the world, passed away in Sindh’s Shikarpur district on Monday at the age of 55, his brother Riaz confirmed.

According to Riaz, Naseer had been suffering from a lung disease for the past several months and was undergoing treatment at home. His funeral prayers will be offered in Shah Muhala, Shikarpur today (Tuesday).

Naseer was seven feet and nine inches tall and was considered one of the tallest people in the world. Due to his tall stature, Naseer was even employed by the national airline.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pakistan’s tallest person.

He prayed for the elevation of the departed soul’s ranks and for strength and patience for the bereaved family.

“In this moment of grief, the entire nation stands in solidarity with Naseer Soomro’s family,” Premier Shehbaz said. “May Allah grant patience to the family of the late Naseer Soomro. Ameen.”

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tessori, along with several leaders of various political parties and elected representatives of Shikarpur, expressed grief over the demise of the country’s tallest man.
