Rob Holland, famed stunt pilot, dies in crash at Langley air force base | The Express Tribune

Stunt pilot Rob Holland died Thursday when his MX Aircraft MXS crashed during approach at Langley Air Force Base, confirmed by his official Facebook page and military officials.

Holland, a decorated aviator known for his performances at air shows across the country, was killed just days before the Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show, where he was scheduled to appear.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it is investigating the crash of the experimental MX Aircraft MXS. Early information indicates the aircraft went down while approaching Langley AFB.

The base confirmed the fatal incident occurred at 11:39 a.m. and was connected to the upcoming air show.

“We lost a friend of our Air Force family,” said Col. Matthew Altman, commander at Joint Base Langley-Eustis. “On behalf of our entire JBLE team, I want to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of this incredible aviator.”

Officials cancelled a Thursday afternoon media availability with U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds pilots citing “unforeseen circumstances.” However, base leadership said Thursday evening the air show is expected to proceed as planned.

An NTSB investigator is scheduled to arrive Friday to begin a full investigation into the cause of the crash.

Holland, who had also performed at the 2023 edition of the same air show, was a regular presence at aviation events.

No additional injuries were reported in the incident.
