Five people killed, including college educator, in Karachi road accidents

At least five people, including a college professor, lost their lives in separate road accidents in Karachi on Saturday.

The educator fell victim to a horrific road accident as he was hit by a trailer truck in Landhi’s Future Colony. The deceased educator was identified as 35-year-old Iftikhar Ahmed, an assistant professor at Government Degree College, Ibrahim Hyderi. The truck driver fled from the scene.

In another road accident, a car hit a motorcycle near Teen Talwar, leaving a man dead and another injured. Police officials nabbed the driver of the vehicle.

An online food delivery rider was killed in Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Khayaban-e-Nishat after his motorcycle was hit by a double-cabin vehicle. The driver of the car was arrested.

An unidentified vehicle hit a mother-son duo near Karsaz, Sharea Faisal, today. The boy lost his life, while his mother sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Furthermore, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by an unidentified car at Jam Sadiq Bridge near the Qayyumabad area.

In the first 151 days of 2025, road accidents across the metropolis claimed 376 lives and injured 5,503 people, rescue officials told The News.

Of the deceased, 289 were men, 40 women, 37 boys, and 10 girls, highlighting the widespread impact of road traffic incidents on all age groups and genders.

The injured included 4,379 men, 809 women, 242 boys, and 73 girls, indicating the ongoing crisis of road safety in the metropolis.

The data also shed light on the specific role of heavy vehicles, which were responsible for 120 of the fatalities this year alone. A breakdown of these deaths shows:

  • Dumpers caused 26 deaths
  • Trailers were involved in 47 fatalities
  • Water tankers led to 26 deaths
  • Mazda trucks claimed 10 lives
  • Buses were responsible for 11 deaths
