KP govt to auction fancy number plates bearing names of top leaders

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to auction fancy vehicle number plates bearing the names of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) jailed founder Imran Khan, President Asif Ali Zardari, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and other prominent political figures.

Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Syed Fakhar Jehan, while speaking to Geo News, said that number plates bearing the names of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulifikar Ali Bhutto and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz would also be available for auction.

The minister said that, in the first phase, the number plates ‘Imran Khan-804’ and ‘Imran Khan-1’ will be available for auction on January 27, while plates bearing the names of other political leaders will be offered in the next phase.

According to a formal advertisement issued by the Excise and Taxation Department, the number plates bearing the names of different castes, including Afridi, Gandapur, Durrani, Kundi, Yousufzai, Mahsood, and Khattak, will also be auctioned on January 27 at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar.

The citizens can submit their applications via the Dastak app. The deadline for submitting applications is January 26, 2026.

The minister said that the bidding for fancy number plates will start from Rs 1 million, and the highest bidder will be awarded a number plate bearing the name of their preferred political figure.

Fakhar Jehan said that vehicle owners are showing strong interest in the initiative, which is expected to generate significant revenue for the national exchequer.
