RAWALPINDI:

An officer posted in the Anti-Narcotics Force was suspended for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling. An inquiry has also been initiated against him.

According to the Sihala police, he was arrested after seizing a large consignment of drugs hidden in school bags and packets inside a private vehicle. A case was registered at Sihala police station on March 15, based on a complaint by Sub-Inspector Sarfaraz Ahmed.

According to the FIR, the police received a tip-off about a vehicle transporting a large quantity of drugs. A police team set up a roadblock on Kahuta Road, stopped the suspected vehicle, and recovered 3.5 kg of opium and 16 kg of hashish.

The driver, identified as Muhammad Bashir Khan, a resident of Gulistan Colony, Rawalpindi, was later revealed to be an ANF officer.

Despite the significant drug recovery, the FIR did not mention his government employee status. The accused was presented in court and sent on judicial remand.

When asked why further investigation was not pursued, Sub-Inspector Sarfaraz Ahmed confirmed that the accused was a government employee and was caught red-handed with the drugs.

The Anti-Narcotics Force Headquarters and Regional Directorate Rawalpindi have taken notice of the case, and an inquiry has been launched. According to an ANF official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the accused was individually involved in drug trafficking.
