Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all states and union territories to conduct nationwide emergency mock drills on May 7. The drills aim to test and enhance the preparedness of civil defence, police, and local administration in handling emergency scenarios.
Preliminary exercises have already begun in several cities. In Jammu and Kashmir, students are trained in safety protocols, while air raid sirens were tested in Lucknow. “We inform students how to save themselves in any adverse situation and guide them to protected areas,” a school teacher said.
The drills are part of a larger national initiative to ensure coordinated response capabilities nationwide. Civil defence teams have also been briefed on managing air attacks, crowd control, and minimizing public risk during crises.
Authorities across India are mobilizing resources to ensure a smooth and effective rehearsal on Tuesday.
