Rohit Sharma opens up about plans for ICC World Cup 2027 | The Express Tribune

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has remained non-committal about his participation in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, stating that he will assess his form and fitness before making a decision.

Speaking after India’s Champions Trophy triumph on Sunday, Rohit, who became only the second Indian skipper to win multiple ICC titles, said the tournament was still too far ahead to make any firm commitments.

“It’s very hard to say that right now, but I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing,” Rohit said. “Right now, I’m playing really, really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team. The team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.

“I can’t really say about 2027 because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open.”

The 37-year-old batter also dismissed any immediate retirement speculation following India’s victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final.

“I’m not retiring from this format… make sure no rumours are spread,” he said during the post-match press conference.

Rohit, along with star batter Virat Kohli, had retired from T20 internationals after leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup last year in the West Indies and the United States. Their decision had fuelled speculation that both players might step away from ODI cricket as well after the Champions Trophy.

However, Rohit’s latest remarks suggest he intends to continue in the format for the foreseeable future, leaving the door open for the 2027 World Cup.
