She urged travellers to act ahead of time. “Schengen visa applications can be submitted up to six months before the intended travel date. We constantly urge applicants to plan their trips and apply for their visas well in advance to avoid any delays ahead of their travels,” she added.
Visa demand for Europe from the UAE remains high, particularly during peak seasons like summer. While this has led to packed appointment calendars, Billimoria said that the appointment slots are released by the respective client governments and not the VFS Global. “Visa appointments are released as per the instructions of the respective client governments and are reflected on our website in real time,” she reiterated.
Appointment availability
“Yes, appointment availability and processing timelines vary from country to country,” Billimoria confirmed. Updated information is available on the websites of the embassies and on the VFS Global website.
No fast-track visa processing
There is no shortcut to a faster visa, no matter what anyone tells you. “There is no fast-track service for Schengen visas,” Billimoria made it clear.
“We do offer a range of premium services for enhanced comfort during the visa submission process, such as the Premium Lounge, courier passport return, and Prime Time slots. These are optional and have no impact on processing timelines or visa decisions,” she explained
Watch out for scammers
Billimoria also issued a strong warning against fraud: “We urge applicants to beware of any third-party entities or individuals posing as VFS Global staff or partners, promising visa appointments or guaranteed visas for an additional fee. These are the sole prerogative of the Embassies or Consulates.”
Premium options
While regular appointments may be scarce, she said that travellers can consider premium services like Platinum Lounge appointments or visa-at-your-doorstep options available only for certain countries and at an added cost.
However, these do not guarantee faster approvals and may not suit every budget.
According to travel agents, some countries have started introducing waitlists and occasional cancellations that open up last-minute slots especially after the Eid break but relying on these is a gamble.
Plan now, relax later
If you are dreaming of gondola rides in Venice or strolls through the streets of Prague, the smartest move is to apply for your visa as early as possible, even 180 days ahead.
Check official embassy sites or VFS Global for current requirements, prepare your documents carefully, and steer clear of anyone promising backdoor solutions.
“Applying in advance can avoid any disappointments or delays at the last minute,” said Billimoria. “Processing timelines and document checklists are available on our website and on the websites of the respective client governments. Applicants are urged to check and prepare accordingly to avoid visa rejections.”
