WATCH: Thief injured after falling into well while stealing electricity cable | The Express Tribune

A would-be thief’s plans were thwarted when he fell 60 feet into a well while attempting to steal from a tubewell in a village near Arifwala.

The individual, identified as Ali from village 46 EB, had ventured to village 64 EB with the intent to commit theft. However, during his attempt, he lost his balance and fell into the deep well.

Realizing the gravity of his situation, Ali called for help, and rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene using location tracking.

They managed to pull him out of the well, and he was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

During police questioning, Ali admitted to his intention of stealing from the tubewell.

On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a reduction of electricity tariffs by Rs1 per kilowatt-hour for all consumers in Pakistan.

This move, part of a broader relief package, is aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers, potentially saving up to Rs100 billion. The relief will be financed through a levy on gas used by captive power plants.

This decision follows Pakistan’s recent staff-level agreement with the IMF, unlocking access to an additional $1 billion under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

The IMF has also noted that Pakistan’s inflation is at its lowest since 2015, with positive economic indicators.

The IMF’s executive board is expected to approve the release of $1 billion by April or May, with a further $1.3 billion disbursed over 28 months, contingent on meeting certain conditions, including a carbon levy.
